The Sites and Applications are collectively referred to as the “Services.” We are committed to protecting the privacy of our members, customers, and visitors on our Services. This Privacy Policy explains the information we may collect when you use our Services, how we may collect it, with whom we may share it, the choices you have regarding your information, and certain other matters related to our privacy practices. Except as otherwise discussed in this Privacy Policy, this document only addresses the use and disclosure of information we collect from you on our Services.

In this Privacy Policy, "we," "us" or "our" refers to AORN. Terms not otherwise defined in this Privacy Policy will have the definitions provided in the  for our Services.

Please read the following to learn more about our data collection policies and practices.

How Information is Collected

Information You Voluntarily Provide

We may collect information from you in several different areas on the Services, for various purposes including but not limited to those described below. In most cases we will only obtain personally identifiable information if you voluntarily provide it to us on our Services. For example, you would provide personal information to us if you complete any of the following on our Services: apply for membership in AORN, register to attend a conference or other event, make a purchase in our online store, register for emails from AORN, make a donation to the AORN Foundation, submit an inquiry to us, participate in our online forums, or if you otherwise submit personal information to us on our Services. If you log in to our Services, including our Applications, you may be asked to provide your email address or member ID and password. Although we discourage our users from posting personally identifiable information in our online forum or in any other manner visible to the public, if you provide any personal information in your postings on our Services, that information will be in our possession as well (although we do not typically harvest and analyze the content of postings). If your company has registered you for membership in AORN, your information may be added to our database as part of that registration, even if you have not visited our Services. If you have been registered by your company, please keep in mind that you may opt-out of communications as described under "Choices Regarding Your Information" below.

We also automatically collect certain anonymous information as described below when you visit our Services. In some cases we may combine personally identifiable information with anonymous information in order to create aggregate information about groups of individuals who use our Services. We may also combine information we have collected from you off-line (such as information you have sent us by postal mail or provided to us in person at an event) with the personal information or anonymous information we have collected from you online.

IP Addresses, Click-stream, and Mobile Device Data

We may collect IP addresses, click-stream data, length of session, and other information related to your use of our Services for purposes of system administration, to improve the Services, to report aggregate information to our advertisers and sponsors, and/or other internal uses related to the Services. An IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer whenever you access the Internet. Our computers identify your computer by its IP address. When you request pages from the Services, our computers log your IP address. Click-stream data is information collected when you visit different pages on our Services. Click-stream data may include information such as the page served, the time, the source of the request, the type of browser, the preceding page view, and other non-personal information. This data helps us analyze how visitors arrive at the Services, what type of content is most popular, and other information about usage of our Services. When you use our Applications, we may collect the ID of your mobile device, the time and date on which you log in or access our Applications, and the actions you take within our Applications.

Analytics Tools

We may use "Google Analytics" or similar tools or services to collect information such as how often users visit our Services, what pages they visit when they do so, and what other sites they used prior to coming to our Services. We use the information we obtain from Google Analytics to improve our Services and tailor them to the needs of our users. Google Analytics may collect the IP address assigned to you on the date you visit our Services, as well as your gender, age, interest categories, and other information to the extent it is available to Google Analytics. Google’s use of information collected by Google Analytics is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms of Use and the Google Privacy Policy. You can prevent Google Analytics from recognizing you on return visits to our Services by disabling cookies on your browser.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

Our Services use standard technology called "cookies," which are small data files that are transferred to your hard drive when your browser settings permit the acceptance of cookies. We or our third party advertising or service providers may also use web beacons or similar technologies. Cookies automatically identify your web browser whenever you visit a Site, and save your user ID, preferences and other information related to your use of our Services. By tracking how and when you use our Services, cookies help us determine which features and content on our Services are most important to our visitors. Accepting cookies allows you, among other things, to personalize your experience on the Services. Cookies may also allow the Services to display advertising which may be of interest to you. If you do not want information collected through the use of cookies, you generally can turn off cookies in your browser; however, some areas of the Services may not provide you with a personalized experience if you have disabled the use of cookies.

Because there is not yet an industry standard regarding how to respond to web browser do not track settings, our Services do not currently respond to this setting. Please note that we may use third party ad networks to serve ads on our Services, and these ad networks or other promotional partners may use cookies or similar technologies which may track users across other sites and over time. If you wish to take steps to opt-out of tracking by certain online advertisers, you can visit the Digital Advertising Alliance’s opt-out page at .
